British Columbia Wine Tours & Regions

British Columbia wine touring includes the Okanagan and Similkameen valleys, Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, Fraser Valley, Thompson Valley, Shuswap, Lillooet and Kootenays. Start with one region, then choose a local pickup base and a route that fits your day. Winery visits and guided transport are separate arrangements unless an operator explicitly includes both.

Vineyards and regional tour routes

Okanagan Valley

Kelowna, West Kelowna, Lake Country, Penticton, Naramata, Oliver and Osoyoos offer different starting points within the valley. Choose the part of the Okanagan where you want to spend time before comparing tours. A pickup in Kelowna does not automatically include a southern-valley itinerary.

Vineyard visits

Similkameen Valley

Keremeos and Cawston are useful names to look for when planning a Similkameen winery day. Treat the valley as a destination in its own right. If combining it with the South Okanagan, ask a driver or operator to confirm the transfer time and a realistic number of tasting appointments.

Island wine touring

Vancouver Island and Cowichan Valley

The Cowichan Valley is a starting point for an island winery itinerary, with Victoria a possible departure base. Keep the mainland journey separate from the tasting schedule: a tour starting on Vancouver Island may not include a ferry, mainland pickup or the transfer from the terminal.

Island winery visits

Gulf Islands

Build a Gulf Islands tasting plan around the island where you will stay and the wineries receiving visitors there. Check the sailing and local transport arrangements before reserving tastings. An island winery appointment should not be taken as evidence that a shuttle between estates is available.

Mainland winery visits

Fraser Valley and Langley

Langley provides a practical focus for a Fraser Valley wine day. Travellers staying in Vancouver should confirm whether transport starts in the city or at a meeting point closer to the wineries. Compare time spent at the estates separately from time spent travelling to the valley.

Interior winery visits

Thompson Valley and Kamloops

Use Kamloops and Thompson Valley when researching a wine stop in this part of the Interior. Make a short list of wineries accepting visitors on your date, then arrange transport around those appointments. Do not assume an Okanagan tour company also serves the Thompson Valley.

Lake-country winery visits

Shuswap

A Shuswap wine outing can form part of a holiday based around the lake. Choose the wineries first and check their locations against your accommodation; being in the same holiday region does not make every tasting room a convenient stop on one afternoon route.

Small-region winery visits

Lillooet

For a Lillooet wine visit, confirm the individual estate appointment and your return journey before setting off. Keep a rural tasting day flexible enough for a meal and travel breaks. A winery visit here should be planned locally rather than added casually to a Vancouver tasting itinerary.

Dispersed winery visits

Kootenays

Research Kootenay winery visits from the town where you are actually staying. This broad region calls for address-by-address planning, rather than assuming a compact trail. Ask whether a tasting, production tour or vineyard walk is offered and what needs to be reserved in advance.

How to plan your British Columbia wine outing

  • Choose an island, coastal or Interior itinerary before requesting quotes; a province-wide search covers very different journeys.
  • Name your pickup town and preferred winery area. Confirm any ferry, mountain-road or inter-valley travel separately.
  • Ask whether the quoted fee covers tasting appointments, tasting charges and lunch, as well as the vehicle.

Arrange a driver who is not drinking. Ask about accessible transport, the surfaces and entrances at each stop, and options for guests who are not tasting.

Where should I start an Okanagan wine tour?

Choose a base near the wineries you want to visit. Compare Kelowna, West Kelowna and Lake Country for a central or northern itinerary, or Penticton and Naramata for a different part of the valley. For Oliver and Osoyoos, ask specifically for a South Okanagan route.

Can I take a wine tour from Vancouver?

Check Fraser Valley and Langley options first, then confirm the exact city pickup and return arrangements with the operator. Vancouver Island and Interior itineraries require additional travel planning; they should not be treated as interchangeable Vancouver day trips.
