Ontario Wine Tours & Winery Regions

Ontario wine trips include Niagara, Prince Edward County and Lake Erie North Shore, with additional winery experiences around Norfolk, Huron County, Southern Georgian Bay and other emerging areas. Decide whether you want a tour with transport, a vineyard visit or a tasting appointment. Your overnight base is usually a better starting point than trying to combine distant Ontario regions.

Vineyards and guided routes

Niagara-on-the-Lake and the Niagara Peninsula

Compare Niagara-on-the-Lake with itineraries elsewhere on the peninsula, including the Bench area. Decide whether you need departure from Toronto, Niagara Falls or local accommodation. Those starting arrangements change the balance between travel time and time at the wineries.

Winery touring

Prince Edward County

Prince Edward County is an Ontario destination, separate from the province of Prince Edward Island. Plan winery appointments around your accommodation and ask which County pickup areas a tour serves. For a group trip, agree the pace and lunch arrangements before selecting the stops.

Mainland and island winery visits

Lake Erie North Shore, Essex County and Pelee Island

Look around Windsor, Essex County and Kingsville for a mainland wine itinerary. A visit to Pelee Island needs its own transport plan. Check the island connection and return arrangements before committing to a tasting time; do not assume a mainland wine tour includes the crossing.

Countryside winery visits

Ottawa and Eastern Ontario

Research vineyards around Navan, the Ottawa Valley and communities in Eastern Ontario when planning a wine day from the capital. Choose a cluster on one side of your departure point before making appointments. Confirm whether a guided tasting takes place at the winery or includes collection in Ottawa.

Farm and estate tastings

Norfolk and Elgin Counties

Norfolk-area destinations include St. Williams, Waterford, Simcoe and Clear Creek. The area combines estate wine with farm experiences, so decide whether the day centres on tastings or a broader countryside outing. Reserve any guided estate experience separately from a casual shop or patio visit.

Winery and fruit-wine visits

Huron and Lambton Counties

Bayfield, Zurich, Seaforth, Clinton, Thedford and Plympton-Wyoming appear in Ontario’s emerging-winery guide. Choose a manageable stretch rather than treating the whole shoreline as one stop. Ask each producer whether its tasting focuses on grape wine, fruit wine, cider or a mixture.

Vineyard and tasting-room visits

Southern Georgian Bay and Grey County

Research winery visits around Annan, Clarksburg and Creemore when staying in the Georgian Bay area. Confirm addresses before arranging a driver: a regional name can cover several different departure points. Ask whether your booking includes a hosted tasting, food pairing or simply a reserved table.

Separate countryside wine outings

Perth County and Hastings County

Ontario’s emerging-winery guide identifies experiences in Perth East and at Tweed in Hastings County. These are separate destinations, not a suggested combined route. Choose whichever suits your travel base and check the producer’s tasting or tour schedule before planning the rest of the day.

Fruit-wine experiences

Muskoka and Algoma Highlands

Look for cranberry-wine experiences around Bala in Muskoka and blueberry-wine visits near Wawa in Algoma. They offer different wine experiences from a Niagara vineyard tour. Plan them as separate regional stops and confirm what part of the farm or production site is open to visitors.

How to plan your Ontario wine outing

  • Choose one wine region per outing and compare the actual meeting point, pickup boundary and return location.
  • For an island visit, reserve transport independently unless the itinerary explicitly includes it.
  • Distinguish a winery-hosted tour from an operator driving between wineries; one does not automatically include the other.

Arrange a driver who is not drinking. Ask about accessible transport, the surfaces and entrances at each stop, and options for guests who are not tasting.

Is Prince Edward County the same as Prince Edward Island?

No. Prince Edward County is in Ontario; Prince Edward Island is a separate Atlantic province. Use the full destination name when comparing wineries, accommodation and transport so your enquiry reaches the right area.

Can I visit Ontario wineries outside Niagara?

Yes. Prince Edward County and Lake Erie North Shore are established options, and Ontario’s tourism guide also lists winery experiences in several emerging regions. Smaller destinations may suit a pre-arranged estate visit rather than a scheduled multi-winery shuttle.
